
Winfred Espejo Contreras, Ph.D., is a professor at the Faculty of Environmental
Sciences at the University of Concepción and a researcher at the EULA-Chile
Centre. His academic career has focused on ecotoxicology and environmental
chemistry, with a special interest in the effects of traditional and emerging
pollutants on ecosystems and human health.
With a PhD in Environmental Sciences from the University of Concepción, he has conducted applied research on contamination by metals and organic compounds, contributing to the understanding of the risks associated with environmental exposure.
He is currently a member of the Chilean Planetary Health Network, promoted by the UdeC in partnership with the Planetary Health Alliance, which seeks to bring together academia, the public sector and civil society around the challenges of planetary health, reinforcing the link between ecosystem integrity and human well-being.
