Ana María Vliegenthart Arntz is a professor of Biology and Natural Sciences, with a Master's degree in Education with a specialisation in Curriculum and Instruction (Virginia State University) and a Master's degree in Wildlife with a specialisation in Environmental Education (Michigan State University). She has dedicated her career to teacher training and strengthening environmental education as a tool for cultural change.
She is currently vice-president of the board of directors of Fundación Parque Katalapi, a leading environmental education institution in Chile, where she promotes training programmes for educators and families, coordinating field activities with interdisciplinary teaching approaches. She has worked on projects related to curriculum development, biocultural conservation and environmental leadership training.
She is the author of various educational materials, such as El Libro Verde de los Niños (The Children's Green Book), Ecolíderes (Eco-leaders) and children's stories aimed at fostering an early connection with nature. Her approach integrates science, pedagogy and commitment to the territories, promoting a transformative, critical education in dialogue with ecosystems.
Actualmente es vicepresidenta del Directorio de la Fundación Parque Katalapi, institución referente en educación ambiental en Chile, donde impulsa programas de formación para educadores y familias, articulando actividades en terreno con propuestas pedagógicas interdisciplinarias. Ha trabajado en proyectos vinculados al desarrollo curricular, conservación biocultural y formación de liderazgos ambientales.
Es autora de diversos materiales educativos, como El Libro Verde de los Niños, Ecolíderes y cuentos infantiles orientados a fomentar el vínculo temprano con la naturaleza. Su enfoque integra ciencia, pedagogía y compromiso con los territorios, promoviendo una educación transformadora, crítica y en diálogo con los ecosistemas.
