CRISTIAN ECHEVERRÍA LEAL

Cristián Echeverría Leal, Ph.D., is a professor at the Faculty of Forestry Sciences at the University of Concepción. He is director of the Landscape Ecology Laboratory (LEP-UdeC) and the UdeC Nature Campus Project at the same university. He holds a degree in Forestry Engineering and an M.Sc. from the Universidad Austral de Chile, and an M.Phil. and Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.

His academic work focuses on landscape ecology, biodiversity conservation, ecosystem and landscape restoration, global change, and geospatial modelling. The LEP-UdeC develops lines of research in biodiversity conservation, geospatial information systems, and restoration, among other areas.

He is actively involved in international networks: he is Vice-President of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE) and has collaborated with the IUCN/SSC Global Tree Specialist Group (BGCI-IUCN) as a contributor and evaluator of the conservation status of tree species; he is also listed as a contributor to State of the World’s Trees.
