CRISTÓBAL PIZARRO PINOCHET

Cristóbal Pizarro Pinochet, D.V.M., Ph.D., is a veterinarian and associate professor in the Faculty of Forestry Sciences at the University of Concepción. His academic work focuses on the human dimensions of biodiversity, wetland ecology and the study of wildlife in natural and peri-urban landscapes in south-central Chile.

He is responsible for the Anthropocene Studies Laboratory (UdeC), an interdisciplinary space focused on critical research into contemporary ecologies. From there, he has coordinated projects on coastal wetlands such as the Tubul-Raqu ystem, monitoring of mammals and birds, and relationships between human communities and ecosystems, with a strong emphasis on the biocultural value of territories.

He is also an adjunct researcher at the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (IEB). He has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate theses in Natural Resource Conservation Engineering on topics such as ethno-ornithology, local use of plants, and community perceptions of environmental change. His career combines scientific research and local knowledge, strengthening the understanding and management of socio-ecological systems.
