Rodrigo Arriagada Cisternas, Ph.D., is an associate professor in the Department of
Ecosystems and Environment at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His
academic work focuses on environmental economics, conservation policy impact
assessment, land use and ecosystem services, integrating quantitative tools to
analyse the social and ecological effects of public policies.
He holds a degree in forestry engineering from the University of Chile and a
master's and doctorate in natural resource and environmental economics from
North Carolina State University (USA). He has led and participated in research on
forest subsidies, private conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable rural
development.
He served as Head of the Information and Environmental Economics Division of
the Chilean Ministry of the Environment, contributing to the creation of the Natural
Capital Committee.
He has published research in scientific journals such as World Development,
Ecological Economics and Land Use Policy, and has worked as an independent
consultant for organisations such as the World Bank, FAO, WWF, IUCN and others
on issues related to environmental policy evaluation, ecosystem services,
conservation and rural development in Latin America. He currently leads NaturaInvest, an initiative for finance in biodiversity and natural capital, led by the
Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, with the participation of the University of
Concepción and the University of Development.
