Biodiversity conservation

Campus Naturaleza is an unprecedented project in Chile, through which the University of Concepción proposes a new ecological commitment, providing a biocultural legacy to the community while developing a space for people to connect with the natural environment.

The project Campus Naturaleza University of Concepción will implement a conservation landscape using nature-based solutions, which will be realized through two approaches.

Conservation in situ

In situ conservation

The last remnants of the deciduous forest of Concepción that exist in the areas adjacent to the UdeC Heritage Campus, with species such as peumos, oaks, and olivillos, among others, as well as the Carcamo Stream wetland, will be protected.

Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work will be promoted, and trails will be implemented for environmental education, recreation, and mental health.

Ex situ conservation

Live genetic material of endangered species in Chile will be safeguarded through a botanical garden, whose implementation will be certified according to international standards.

Ecological Restoration

Ecosystem restoration

Ecological restoration

It is a solution based on nature itself, using a reference ecosystem that serves as a guide to assist a native forest or aquatic ecosystem in its recovery trajectory.

Human well-being and comprehensive health

Integrated Health and Recreation

One of the primary objectives of the University of Concepción, through the Campus Naturaleza project, will be to promote education and interaction of people with the natural environment through activities available to the community in a safe and recreational space.
