Recuperamos ecosistemas degradados y sus funciones
Ex situ conservation – conserving species away from their natural habitat - complements protection in the wild . By maintaining plant material and genetic diversity in living collections and seed banks, we secure a safety net for conservation, research, education and future restoration.
Campus Naturaleza is laying the foundations of the University of Concepción’s Botanical Garden, with a fous on Chile’s threatened species and ecosystems.
Primera colección viva
La primera colección establecida en el 2024 está inicialmente integrada por tres especies amenazadas del género Nothofagus:
- ruil, Nothofagus alessandrii;
- hualo, Nothofagus glauca;
- roble de Santiago, Nothofagus macrocarpa.
Las semillas fueron recolectadas en distintas poblaciones naturales de Chile con el fin de representar su diversidad genética. Cada planta cuenta con un registro de información sobre su procedencia y ubicación, lo que permite monitorear su supervivencia, crecimiento y estado sanitario a lo largo de los años.
